At the Paris Auto Show, BYD executives laid out a European charging build-out: 100 flash chargers are to be in place by the close of 2026, with the regional network then scaling to 3,000 units by the end of 2027. Germany received BYD’s first European flash charger in June, and the company has since added installations in several other markets, the UK among them.
Each flash charger can deliver up to 1,500 kW of DC power through a single connector, BYD says. For EVs using its second-generation Blade Battery, that translates to a 10–70% top-up in five minutes and a 10–97% charge in nine minutes, according to the automaker.
In China, BYD already runs 12,165 flash chargers. Globally, it intends to have 20,000 charging stations operating by the end of 2026. The 3,000 European chargers targeted for the end of 2027 would account for half of the 6,000-unit overseas flash-charging network the company has planned for that year.
So far, the Denza Z9 GT wagon is the sole BYD-built model in Europe compatible with the technology. BYD expects more compatible vehicles to reach the European market.
The all-electric Atto 8 crossover is scheduled for a European launch in the first quarter of 2027. A seven-seater, it is set to become the first BYD-badged model in the region with flash-charging capability. Standard equipment will include a 115 kWh LFP battery and a dual-motor setup with a combined peak output of 570 kW. BYD lists its WLTP range at 653 km. Additional flash-charging models are due to follow the Atto 8 in Europe next year, the company said.
