BYD has unveiled a new residential energy ecosystem in Europe and presented its latest home storage solution, the Battery-Box Mega, at the Smarter E Europe 2026 exhibition in Munich, Germany. Taking place from June 23 to 25, the event is one of Europe’s largest energy industry trade fairs. BYD Energy Storage displayed a full range of products tailored to a variety of residential and small commercial applications.
The newly introduced residential energy ecosystem comprises three core components: the Smart Ecobox, the Backup-Box and the AC Charging Box. Acting as an intelligent energy management hub, the Smart Ecobox enables sophisticated scheduling and optimisation of household electricity consumption. The Backup-Box delivers seamless backup power during grid failures, while the AC Charging Box integrates electric vehicle charging directly into the home storage system. Collectively, these products move beyond conventional “PV plus storage” setups to combine power generation, storage, management, backup and charging within a unified ecosystem.
A highlight of the show, the Battery-Box Mega is designed for both residential and small commercial environments such as factories, farms, shops and hotels. It combines commercial-grade performance with residential ease of use, offering capacities from 62.4 kWh up to 5.24 MWh. Built with lithium iron phosphate cells, the unit incorporates a four-tier safety protection architecture, IP66 dust and water protection, the highest C5 corrosion resistance rating and an operating temperature range of –20 °C to 55 °C. Engineered for maintenance-free operation, it requires no fluid changes or scheduled inspections over its service life and benefits from a DC-coupled architecture that raises efficiency by roughly 2 percent.
Each Battery-Box Mega module provides 12.5 kWh, enabling flexible configurations from 62.4 kWh to 262 kWh that shorten installation times and lower upfront costs. The system pairs with BYD’s Power-Box TH inverter, which features a 42 A high-current MPPT, 200 percent PV oversizing, 150 percent off-grid overload capability for heavy-duty loads and 10-millisecond backup switching.
Alongside its residential portfolio, BYD also exhibited utility-scale storage solutions including the BYD Haohan, the next-generation GC Flux PCS and the GC Master EMS. The company underscored its role in Europe’s clean energy transition with gigawatt-scale, grid-forming storage deployments. Earlier this month, BYD supplied the energy storage system for Hungary’s largest battery project—a 99.8 MW/288.6 MWh installation by Greenvolt Power—and has now delivered large-scale projects across more than 110 countries.
