HiTHIUM Enters Canada with 8-Hour Long-Duration BESS and Cold-Resistant Sodium-Ion Storage

Toronto, Canada — October 21 — HiTHIUM has made its Canadian market debut with an 8-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) and sodium-ion solutions engineered for severe cold. The company is a provider of integrated energy-storage solutions across the full range of scenarios, ranks in the global top two for energy-storage components, and has surpassed 200 GWh in cumulative delivered capacity. Its business is focused exclusively on stationary energy-storage technologies.

A local platform for a fast-growing market

Canada’s storage fleet is projected to double between 2025 and 2027, while the country’s combined wind, solar and energy-storage capacity is on track to reach 50 GW by 2035. To serve that buildout, HiTHIUM has established Toronto as its Canadian hub, supported by subsidiary offices in British Columbia and Alberta and operating sites in Quebec, Yellowknife and Fort Smith.

Mizhi Zhang, HiTHIUM’s President of Global Business, commented: “We are committed to delivering Canadian customers advanced, robust solutions, from 8-hour long duration energy storage to extreme-weather-ready sodium-ion BESS. But this also means being present for customers wherever they are, able to serve them quickly and locally. While Toronto serves as the main hub for our Canadian operations, we have subsidiary offices in British Columbia and Alberta, as well as operating sites in Quebec, Yellowknife, and Fort Smith.”

Duration and chemistry options

HiTHIUM has introduced 4-hour and 8-hour BESS solutions to support the rapid expansion of utility-scale storage in Canada. It has also unveiled a new 4 MWh sodium-ion system designed for an extra-long service life, with storage durations from 2 to 8 hours, making it well suited to extremely cold climates such as Northern Canada.

The company’s 4-hour offering is built around its “∞Power” 6.25 MWh container, which uses HiTHIUM’s own 1175 Ah cell. Most Canadian projects are currently designed around the 4-hour unit. This configuration allows developers to shift wind, solar and baseload output to later peak periods, strengthen grid reliability and increase renewable consumption as electrification raises demand. The ∞Power design packs more capacity into a standard 20-foot container and reduces overall project footprint because containers can be arranged back-to-back and side-to-side.

For long-duration storage, HiTHIUM says it developed the first native 8-hour lithium-ion solution. Its 6.9 MWh 8-hour BESS uses HiTHIUM’s 1300 Ah cells, has fewer components overall and a 25-year lifespan. It is designed to address curtailment and to fill key gaps for zero-downtime industrial segments such as AI data centers. For wind developers and data-center operators alike, the 8-hour system offers lower risk and more reliable revenue.

Zhang continued: “Canada’s ambitious clean energy targets, as well as its high safety and regulatory standards, require partners who can deliver advanced technology that’s also tested and compliance-ready. At the same time, project developers have to consider the tough climate. As a vertically integrated, global solutions provider, HiTHIUM is structured to meet exactly this nexus of challenges. Our strategy of advancing both lithium-ion and sodium-ion storage is designed to offer customers in markets like Canada the benefits of flexibility, since we see these technologies as highly complementary.”

Jordan Hebbert, HiTHIUM’s Senior Manager of Canada, added: “Our partners, whether major energy developers, public utilities, or industrial enterprises, rely on our readiness for local certification and our long-term bankability to support them, from permitting through project commissioning. Likewise, they depend on the proven durability of HiTHIUM technology—including performance even in extreme weather conditions. In fact, long-term operational data from North American and European projects has recently demonstrated systems outperforming even our guarantees. And we offer customers a wider range of durations and choice of chemistries because we understand that they’re coming to us with a very diverse range of energy storage needs.”

Independent fire test backs safety design

In early 2026, HiTHIUM worked with UL Solutions on an independently conducted extreme-fire test of the intrinsic safety systems in its 6.25 MWh block. A container was exposed to 24 hours of extreme combustion conditions, with its doors opened to allow maximum thermal spread, while neighboring containers stood just 15 cm away. Only passive safety systems were active. The results validated HiTHIUM’s multi-layer safety architecture: the tested container remained structurally intact, there was no thermal propagation across containers, and cell temperatures in adjacent containers stayed below safety thresholds.
