December 12, Xiamen, China — During its third Eco-Day event, HiTHIUM launched the world’s first 8-hour-native battery energy storage solution, the ∞Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh. Designed from the ground up for long-duration energy storage (LDES), the system is built on an 8-hour architecture and powered by a dedicated 8-hour battery cell. This truly native design—from cell to system—represents the first solution specifically engineered for 8-hour LDES, enabling continuous renewable power supply in all weather conditions.
As 8-hour LDES plays an increasingly vital role in grid stability and renewable energy utilization, it has emerged as a major industry focus. Among long-duration technologies, lithium-based solutions stand out as the optimal choice. Dedicated 8-hour lithium cells offer superior integration, efficiency, and stability, making them ideally suited for system-level requirements. A pioneer in lithium LDES, HiTHIUM continues to drive technological innovation and improve cost competitiveness, strengthening lithium’s position in the long-duration market and accelerating its widespread, large-scale adoption.
The ∞Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh is a turnkey solution designed specifically for 8-hour, all-weather energy storage. Each highly integrated standard unit delivers 6.9MW of power and 55.2MWh of energy, comprising one medium-voltage module and eight storage modules.
With optimized hoisting and cabling, the system reduces on-site construction effort, improves deployment efficiency by 18%, and uses 23% less land compared to the previous generation. Preconfigured for standalone storage plants, large wind-solar bases, and extreme environments, the ∞Power8 features a new system architecture that delivers integrated benefits in cost, efficiency, safety, and reliability.
Cost Reduction: By eliminating redundant components, system integration is increased by over 10%, while efficiency rises by more than 30%.
High-Efficiency Operation: Through intelligent control, thermal-island simulation, and end-to-end active balancing, auxiliary power consumption is cut by over 30%, temperature control precision improves by 50%, response speed increases by 20%, and balancing capability is enhanced 20-fold—all with over 97% efficiency. Conservatively, the active balancing strategy alone can save over USD 1 million per 1 GWh of LDES.
Safety and Reliability: The system incorporates industry-first mass-produced high-strength steel-belt confinement, a rapid dual-valve pressure release design, and next-generation high-performance insulation between cells capable of withstanding 800°C and 300 kPa without failure. HiTHIUM is also the first company worldwide to pass an open-door fire test, demonstrating exceptional thermal resilience.
At the heart of the 8-hour-native solution is the ∞Cell 1300Ah 8h, designed for the 6.9MWh BESS. Each cell delivers over four times the capacity of mainstream products and reduces system component count by more than 30%. HiTHIUM’s multi-layer protection approach—from materials to system integration—ensures the cell passes stringent safety tests with non-propagating thermal runaway. Engineered for over 25 years of operation, it guarantees full-lifecycle safety and delivers strong long-term returns for LDES applications.
This leap in capacity and cost-effectiveness stems from HiTHIUM’s proprietary ultra-thick electrode technology, which overcomes key challenges in long-duration cells such as electrode cracking, slow ion-electron transport, and difficult electrolyte penetration. Compared to the previous-generation ∞Cell 1175Ah, electrode thickness has been significantly increased, enabling the 8-hour cell to reduce foil and other power component costs by over 50% relative to 2-hour cells—striking an optimal balance between performance and cost.
As an early leader in lithium-based LDES, HiTHIUM has built a cell portfolio covering 587Ah, 1175Ah, and 1300Ah, with the first two already shipped at GWh scale. The ∞Power8 6.9MW/55.2MWh system is scheduled for mass production in Q4 2026.
The launch of the world’s first 8-hour-native solution establishes a new technical pathway for long-duration storage, driving improvements in cost efficiency, safety, and operational performance. HiTHIUM will continue to innovate across renewable energy bases, AIDCs, and other key scenarios, working to make all-weather green power a new global energy standard.
