CATL and Seres sign a long-term strategic cooperation agreement in Chongqing on October 10, 2026.

CATL and Seres have agreed to a long-term strategic partnership aimed at raising battery output for Aito, Seres’ auto brand, while pushing their cooperation into charging services and markets outside China.

The agreement was signed in Chongqing on Saturday, the city where Seres is based. Aito’s entire vehicle range will continue to rely on CATL batteries for the long haul, a move that strengthens the supply tie already in place between the two companies.

According to CATL, every Aito model has been fitted with CATL batteries since the brand first appeared, and deliveries for the brand have now passed 1.2 million units in total.

A major element of the pact is expanding capacity. Both companies will move faster on the second phase of a “plant-in-plant” project located at Seres’ manufacturing site. That phase is designed to add 10–12 GWh of annual capacity.

When phase two is finished, the two phases together are expected to provide more than 20 GWh per year. CATL said the move is meant to make the supply chain more resilient and competitive by keeping production close to vehicle assembly.

The plan expands on a setup in which battery production sits inside an automaker’s assembly plant, with battery system manufacturing and Aito vehicle output taking place on the same site.

CATL started running two CTP (cell-to-pack) 2.0 battery pack lines at Seres’ plant on June 30, 2025, supplying battery systems locally for Aito vehicles.

That project was CATL’s first production base in Chongqing and its first deployment of the plant-in-plant approach. The new agreement will add to that manufacturing presence.

Apart from capacity, the two sides will work together on supercharging networks and battery-related services, with the goal of creating a service framework that spans the battery’s entire lifecycle. They will also seek opportunities in overseas markets such as Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia, CATL said.

The announcement gave no timeline for the agreement or for phase two’s start of operations. It also did not specify which models or implementation plans would be involved in the overseas cooperation.

Seres, meanwhile, has renewed its Aito tie-up with Huawei, another major partner. The two companies signed a fresh five-year cooperation agreement in Shenzhen on September 30 to jointly develop the Aito business.

As part of arrangements disclosed on October 1, Huawei and Seres will form a dedicated Aito team and keep building brand-specific operations to strengthen the brand and enhance customer service.

For CATL, the deal reinforces its long-term supply position with Aito. The company remains the world’s biggest supplier of EV batteries.

Data released on October 2 by South Korean market research firm SNE Research showed CATL’s global EV battery installations totaled 333.0 GWh in the first eight months of the year, a 25.2% increase from a year earlier, giving it a 39.4% market share.
