China’s solid-state battery sector is gearing up for a wave of activity in 2027, as several major cell producers and automakers converge on that year for pilot production and real-world road testing. Farasis Energy, CALB, and Gotion High-Tech—the latter backed by Volkswagen—are the latest to disclose plans for 2027 trial runs. Their announcements follow earlier signals from BYD and CATL, both of which have also identified 2027 as a key milestone for solid-state battery trials.
Geely has separately laid out a similar timetable. The automaker aims to begin trial production and real-world validation of its 500 Wh/kg solid-state cells in 2027, with the stated goal of delivering electric vehicles whose range rivals that of diesel-powered cars.
These moves align with China’s New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035), introduced in 2020, which calls for faster development and commercialization of solid-state battery technology.
According to Libattery.net, CALB expects to start small-scale EV validation in 2027 and then expand solid-state battery output between 2030 and 2032. Gotion High-Tech is centering its efforts on 350 Wh/kg cells, with road tests and small-scale vehicle integration set for 2027, followed by full commercial production targeted for 2029 to 2030. Farasis Energy also plans EV validation in 2027 and full commercial production in 2030.
EVE Energy says it has produced sulfide-based solid-state cells at the amp-hour scale. The company expects to introduce first-generation cells with up to 350 Wh/kg and 800 Wh/L in 2026, and a second generation with 1,000 Wh/L in 2028.
Figures from China EV DataTracker show CATL remains China’s largest battery manufacturer with a 42.9% market share, while BYD ranks second at 19.5%. CALB, Gotion, and EVE round out the next three positions. The top four battery makers together control more than 75% of the market, and all have committed to the 2027 trial-production timeline.
Dreame Technology, a company best known for home appliances, has also moved into the solid-state battery space. Its Galaxy Crystal cells are reported to exceed 450 Wh/kg, with small-scale deliveries planned for 2026 and full commercial production set for 2027.
