Ganfeng Lithium Begins Small-Scale Production of 500 Wh/kg Solid-State Batteries

Ganfeng Lithium has initiated small-scale manufacturing of solid-state batteries delivering an energy density of 500 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg), according to disclosures in the minutes of a recent investor relations meeting. This represents the first time a 10 amp-hour solid-state battery has crossed the 500 Wh/kg mark, setting a new industry benchmark for lithium-metal battery commercialization.

Alongside this ultra-high-energy offering, Ganfeng reported progress in the testing of a 400 Wh/kg solid-state cell. Engineers have validated its performance through more than 1,100 charge-discharge cycles, demonstrating a robust cycle life and readiness for volume scale-up.

Within its solid-state battery program, Ganfeng is developing two anode technologies: silicon-carbon and lithium-metal. The company is prioritizing lithium-metal anodes to accelerate the mass production of batteries with high specific energy. In 2025, research and development expenditures accounted for 4.51 percent of Ganfeng’s total operating revenue, reflecting the company’s strong commitment to innovation.

Ganfeng’s next-generation solid-state batteries are intended for high-end electric vehicles, urban air mobility, robotics, and consumer electronics. An early application includes the integration of the company’s high-energy-density cells in the AE200-100 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft developed by Aerofugia Technology, a subsidiary of Geely.

Looking forward, Ganfeng anticipates that global lithium supply and demand will remain tightly balanced through 2026 and 2027. The company noted that the persistently weak lithium prices in recent years have dampened large-scale capital investment across the industry, which could constrain new supply growth in the near term.

By advancing solid-state battery designs and expanding production capacity, Ganfeng aims to secure a leading position in next-generation energy storage solutions across multiple high-growth markets.
